Social Work Counselling & Therapy

Social work therapy brings therapeutic support together with an understanding of the wider circumstances in which people live.

What is Social Work

Social work is an allied health profession that focuses on supporting people to improve daily life, including their personal and social wellbeing.

Social workers recognise relationships and working together are at the core of making change. Social workers are strengths seekers with the skills and knowledge to support not just individuals but families, groups and communities too.

In therapeutic practice social work offers a space to explore life's challenges while developing practical and psychological resources for navigating change.

Social Work and Chronic Pain

Chronic pain affects more than the body, it can impact mental health, relationships, work, family life, and overall wellbeing. In Australia, Social Workers are recognised members of multidisciplinary healthcare teams and provide evidence-informed support to help people manage the emotional, psychological, social, and practical challenges of living with persistent pain.

A social worker can help you understand how stress, life experiences, and your environment may influence your pain experience, while supporting you to develop practical coping strategies, navigate healthcare and community systems, strengthen relationships, and improve quality of life.

At Living Systems Health, this social work foundation is integrated with pain education, and creative approaches to support to help you move beyond managing symptoms towards reconnecting to life's joy.
